Founded by Tao Leigh Goffe in 2019 with a focus on academic research and decolonization, Afro-Asia Group has three strands focused on research, food histories, and coalition networks.
AFRO-ASIA WORKING GROUP
a speaker series and research workshop that hosts emerging and established scholars working on the intersections of African and Asian diasporas.
AFRO-ASIA GASTROPOETICS
events on cooking and the intersection of African and Asian foodways from plantations, to islands, to oceans, and beyond. A test kitchen funded by a grant from the Mellon Foundation supports the Afro-Asia Group initiative Kitchen Marronage (2021-present).
AFRO-ASIA INFRASTRUCTURE
consulting regarding infrastructure, legal history, the climate crisis, environmental advocacy, and community engagement in relation to the geopolitical stakes of China in Africa, China in the Caribbean and Latin America
